Our Executive Team

OUR EXECUTIVE TEAM

Dave Dinesen is CEO of leading local chain AgTech company CubicFarm Systems Corp. Dave brings innovative indoor onsite growing technologies to market globally to grow commercial scale amounts of fresh produce. Through an acquisition in 2020 of HydroGreen, Dave added a division of automated fresh livestock feed technologies. Dave founded venture capital and consulting firm WideOcean Strategies in 2015 after Goldman Sachs acquired his first startup, Sterling BackCheck, a background screening company serving 15,000 corporate customers and screening millions of people globally.

John de Jonge

John de Jonge

Interim CEO and President

Mr. de Jonge has been in the industry for over two decades, having served as a senior leader in multiple agricultural businesses, including the owner of Artex Barns Inc. through to its successful sale in 2021. He is widely respected among members of the North American farming and dairy communities, having been an instrumental part in the invention and development of the Comfort Zone FreeStall System and Big-Box dairy design.

As a former board member of CubicFarms, Mr. de Jonge was integral to the original acquisition of HydroGreen for the Company in 2019 and has agreed to return to lead the Company during its transition to focus on accelerating the growth of the Company’s Feed Division.

Carlos Yam

Chief Financial Officer

Carlos Yam has more than 20 years of experience as a senior financial executive for public and private companies. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) in Canada and Certified Public Accountant in the United States (Illinois) and holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. Prior to joining CubicFarms, Carlos served as CFO and led deals in the construction and infrastructure services sectors and helped integrate the operations of new acquisitions for global operations in Canada, the United States, and Australia.

Edoardo De Martin

Edoardo De Martin

Advisor

Edoardo brings significant experience to advancing artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and mixed reality technologies supporting our innovative growing technologies and ambitious goal to feed a changing world. He is a proven technology leader with more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry. Prior to joining CubicFarms, he spent 10 years at Microsoft working in various roles including General Manager of the Microsoft Vancouver Development Centre and driving innovation as GM of Dynamics Mixed Reality Applications on HoloLens, the world’s first holographic computer. Edoardo is a graduate of Simon Fraser University and began his career in telecommunications before transitioning to roles in the video game industry, where he is known for creating highly sought-after games. He delivered Need for Speed Underground, the franchise-leading, number-one selling game worldwide, and earned back-to-back ‘Best Company’ honours for operational excellence at Next Level Games (acquired by Nintendo). As an advocate for British Columbia’s tech industry, he has served on the board of Innovate BC, BC Tech, Cascadia Innovation Corridor, and was Co-Chair of the Canadian Digital Supercluster.

Jo-Ann Ostermann

Chief Customer Officer

Jo-Ann joined CubicFarms in 2016 as one of its earliest employees, and helped build the company from the ground up, with oversight across multiple departments including farming operations, R&D and machine installation. As Chief Customer Officer, she is responsible for overall customer experience, encompassing account management and customer support. She also oversees the Company’s subscription program, which includes software updates, new crop growing protocols, optimization data, training and grower support, as well as the consumables program, which includes the supply of seeds, nutrients, substrates, and packaging to customers. Jo-Ann is one of the few people in North America to have opened and operated a vertical farming operation on a commercial scale. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing with distinction and an MBA from the University of Calgary.

Amanda van Tilborg

Vice President, Human Resources

Amanda van Tilborg joined CubicFarms in 2020 and is responsible for the company’s global people strategy and operations. A senior leader with a decade of HR experience in the food processing, manufacturing, and long-term care industries, Amanda leads the company’s HR team while overseeing recruitment and retention, training and development, compliance, and various other activities for employees. As a farm owner in the Fraser Valley, she combines her passion for people with her commitment to agriculture to make a positive difference in the world with CubicFarms. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources and Organizational Studies, as well as a CPHR designation with the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of British Columbia & Yukon.

Daniel Burns

Chair, Board of Directors

Daniel Burns is the first certified director in British Columbia (ICD.D) and one of the first in Canada. He is a member of the Law Society of BC and the Certified Professional Accountants of Ontario. He holds MBAs from University of Toronto and St Gallen, Switzerland. He is well versed in public markets, having created a capital pool company on the TSX Venture Exchange.

Janet Wood

Janet Wood

Janet Wood is a globally recognized leader in the technology industry who has held roles with several major technology companies including IBM, Crystal Decisions, Business Objects and SAP. Janet has been recognized with a YWCA Women of Distinction Award the Canadian Women’s Executive Network Top 100 Women Award. She is a Board member of ICBC, Pureweb Technologies, and Junior Achievement of BC and sits on the University of Alberta Business School Advisory Committee.

G. David Cole, MBA, is recognized internationally as an accomplished senior financial executive with nearly 40 years of corporate experience in building teams and businesses in a broad range of global markets and economies. As Vice Chairman of the Enterprise Strategic Client Group at Royal Bank of Canada, David has extensive expertise in strategic business growth, capital markets, financial products and client-centric sales and marketing. Known for his strong client focus, high energy level, creativity, demonstrated adaptability, and leadership skills, David is a highly respected senior executive, a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, and a member of multiple boards including the University of Western Ontario’s International Advisory Council and Outward Bound Canada, a registered charity committed to helping Canadian youth through experiential adventures in the outdoors.

Michael McCarthy

Michael McCarthy

Michael McCarthy is the Principal at McCarthy Pacific Group, consulting and advising on strategic business development, enhancing business-to-business marketing, and enabling a culture of high performance. He has extensive leadership experience in the technology sector with companies such as Telus, IBM and Silicon Graphics, where he aggressively grew the business while developing future leaders.
